ALTARNUN’S tough start to the season continued on Saturday in Premier Division East of the St Piran League as they were soundly beaten 6-1 at reigning champions Saltash United Reserves.

The Nuns, who were beaten 3-0 at Callington Town Reserves in midweek courtesy of Kevin McCallion’s brace plus an effort from Evan Barnes, led inside three minutes via Hamish Hudson. The hosts were a goal to the good at the break before adding four more after the restart.

North Petherwin fell to a second defeat in four starts as promoted Newquay Reserves edged a close contest 1-0 at Petherwin Park thanks to Freddie Collins’ first half opener, while Kilkhampton’s clash at St Blazey Reserves was postponed due to the hosts’ first team taking priority in the FA Vase.

Callington – second in the table – earned a valuable point in a goalless draw at Nanpean Rovers.

In Division One East, Lifton were unable to build on their midweek 2-0 victory at Launceston Reserves which came courtesy of Nathan Farrer and Craig Charnock as they were beaten 5-1 by visiting Saltash United Thirds, while both Boscastle and St Teath weren’t in action following midweek games.

The Castle lost 1-0 at Bodmin Town due to Dan Jennings’ goal, while St Teath were beaten 4-1 at St Dennis despite sub Rowan Turner getting on the scoresheet.

Launceston Reserves are struggling in the league, however they grabbed their first victory of the season on Saturday as they eased past St Stephen 6-2 in the first round of the George Evely Cup with Danny Mitchell (2), Cory Chapman, Kaiet Rasche, Hayden Gay and George Probets all on target.

Week St Mary were unable to build on their first victory of the season in Division Two East as they were beaten 3-1 by visiting Roche despite Jago Barriball netting.

Bude Town Reserves had the weekend off from league action – and eventually all together – as visiting Gorran conceded their Cornwall Junior Cup clash.

Four league matches went ahead in Division Three East, which included Kilkhampton Reserves continuing their recent momentum with a 3-0 home success over St Merryn at Lamb Park.

Skipper Adam Cleave got the first before Kai Chegwyn and a deflected free-kick from Keith Feltham secured the Rooks a fourth win from five starts.

Delabole United’s defensive efforts need plenty of work after conceding six at home for the second straight week.

The Slaters trailed visiting Landrake 6-1 at the break, but did at least pull three unanswered goals after the restart. Bradley Travers netted a hat-trick for the hosts who missed a host of chances throughout.

St Teath Reserves produced an excellent second half comeback to win 3-1 at Indian Queens.

The North Cornwall outfit trailed at the break, but efforts from Nathan Smith and Connor Mountain, plus an own goal, earned a fine three points.

North Petherwin Reserves drew 1-1 at Bodmin Dragons with Owen Pennington netting in the first half for the visitors.

In the basement division, St Minver’s first outing of the season saw them record a 5-2 success at Gerrans and St Mawes United Reserves via Toby Eddison (2), Phil Dines, Travis Richards and an own goal, while Lifton Reserves lost 3-1 at their St Mawgan counterparts and Launceston Thirds were edged out 2-0 at St Anns Chapel.
