TINTAGEL took another giant step towards promotion on Saturday as they saw off fellow hopefuls Grampound Road Seconds by eight wickets at Butts Field.

The visitors were well-placed ay 89-2 despite Vedavyas Kankanala’s brace, but they were all out for just 156 as Jordan Blanchard took 5-37. Ryan Pooley chipped in with 2-46.

The chase was a routine affair led by Matt Jolliffe’s unbeaten 78.

Man-of-the-match Blanchard added 44 in an opening stand of 139 as they sit 18 points ahead of third-placed Saltash.

Launceston and Callington Thirds remain in the bottom two following damaging defeats.

Cally welcomed South Petherwin to Lux Park and were dismissed for 107, that depite a 52-run stand for the final wicket between Rhys Hodge and last man Chris Bennett (8).

Sam Pengelly (2-20), Kevin Horrell (2-12) and Paul Clements (1-7) gave away little before Jacob Masters (4-39) took out four in quick succession. Hodge’s unbeaten 41 gave Cally a bit of hope.

But Petherwin eased to victory with James Weeks batting through for an unbeaten 31.

Adam Creasey smashed 32 not out from just 14 deliveries at the end.

Cally sit 20 points from safety, seven ahead of Launceston who lost their crunch clash at Roche Seconds.

The visitors chose to bat before slipping to 38-2.

Surviving opener Mark Thomas hung around for 51 from 109 balls, before Finlay Worth added some momentum with a quickfire 31.

But the innings was taken on by a remarkable assault from Kevin Worth.

He struck 114 not out from just 60 balls with five fours and 10 sixes as Launceston reached 266-4 from their 45 overs.

However, that wasn’t enough as despite Matt Bloomfield’s tidy spell (0-31) and Ethan Green’s 2-43, Roche eased to victory by six wickets with 15 balls to spare.
