League title within touching distance for Saltash

SALTASH are within touching distance of claiming the Division Three East title after they eased past visiting Grampound Road IIs by eight wickets at Chapel Field.

Having elected to bat first, the Roadies were in trouble from the outset and only opener Stephen Matthews (29) offered any resistance as they were downed for just 63.

Wickets were shared amongst the home attack with Tharanga Prasad taking three, while there were two apiece for Dave Bolland, Ben Hutson and Matt Petherbridge.

Openers Jonny Wastell (21no) and Huw Williams (27) put on 61 for the opening wicket to seal their success.

Rob Foot’s unbeaten 70, 52 not out from Will Thomas and 40 from Michael Blake helped Boconnoc post a total of 257-6 in their home clash with Duloe, who were then skittled for just 74 in their chase.

Aaron Conway’s 24 was the best they could muster, while Colum Taylor finished with 4-22 from his nine overs.

South Petherwin remain second after they saw off visiting Ladock by 63 runs.

Batting first, the hosts put on 256-6, which included an unbeaten 73 from skipper Jacob Masters.

In reply, a half century from Vivak Osa, plus 38 from Craig Butler, stifled the home bowling.

In Division Four East, Liskeard and Wadebridge IIIs are locked on 242 points at the top of the table after both recorded victories against Werrington IIIs and St Stephen respectively.

Liskeard were in fine form with the bat, posting a total of 218-7, which included knocks from Andrew Ware (69), Andrew Cobb (47) and Brijesh Desai (65).

Freddie Ward’s 3-33 was the pick for Werrington, who were then bowled out for 68, Cobb claiming 4-22.

Wadebridge IIIs ran out three wicket winners at home to St Stephen, who were dismissed for 146.

Patrick Horne’s deadly 6-4 from five overs did the damage, before team-mate Robert Centini hit an unbeaten 64 in the chase.

Launceston remain a point back, despite losing by six runs against Callington IIIs.

The hosts batted first and struck 157 all out, a total boosted by a late cameo from Finn Skews, who struck 40 from 49 balls.

Launceston’s response, however, never got going and despite 40 from Kev Worth, they fell short of the mark.

Tideford’s disappointing campaign continued as they were beaten by 140 runs at home to St Neot.

The visitors elected to bat first and put on a huge 354/4, including knocks from Chris Simpson (122), Dave Masters (83) and Dave Eldridge (56no).

Gary Lillyman’s 43 was the pick of the Tideford response.

Buckland Monachorum’s unbeaten run in Division Five East continued with a five-wicket win at Launceston IIs.

Home opener James Theobold hit an unbeaten 92 in their total of 192, but 106 not out from Adam Talbott, including 17 boundaries, sealed Buckland’s win.

Lanhydrock are second despite a 25-run loss at next best Pencarrow, while Menheniot-Looe are fourth after an easy win at home to Newquay IIIs.

The headlines, however, came from Luckett where Gunnislake’s Dan Pethick smashed 280 in their total of 466-4.

The opener whacked 20 fours and 28 sixes in a majestic knock, while skipper Dinesh Thirupuvanarajah struck a further 88.

Thomas Rickard’s 101 was all in vain for the home side, who eventually fell 202 runs short.
