LAUNCESTON Seconds closed in on safety with a six-wicket victory over their Menheniot-Looe counterparts.
Wicketkeeper Glyn Hutchings (73no) shared stands of 79 and 69 with Phil Spry (44) and Toby Theobald (26no) after Oliver Keates (3-43), Peter West (2-46) and Oliver Chamings (2-40) kept Menheniot to 209-7.
Bottom side Holsworthy Seconds thrashed Luckett’s second-string by six wickets to leave the visitors 36 points from safety.
Adam Lovejoy (4-26) and Liam Brend (3-0) shared seven wickets before Lovejoy smashed 26 not out in the short chase of 47.
In Division Six, South Petherwin Seconds’ promotion hopes took a blow as they were well beaten at leaders Saltash twos.
James Cawsey (3-36) and Emma Barnes (3-32) shared six wickets in the home side’s 193-9, but the visitors could only muster 114-9. Richard Watson (31) and Nick Gerry (27) made starts.
The Pethericks – Thomas (3-21) and George (2-23), plus Grace Kirby (3-26) and Emma Horrell (2-17) were all in the wickets in Werrington Fourths’ eight-wicket home win over Grampound Road Thirds. Rory Sachs was 57 not out in the chase of 121.
A depleted Bude Seconds lost by 38 runs at their Tintagel counterparts.
Thirties from Callum Flew (37), Dan Jones (34no) and Martin Seldon (33no) helped the Knights reach 187-8 despite debutant Adam Sparkes’ 3-16.
Michael Taylor (71no) batted through in their 149-8 as Ollie Edwards (2-34) and Josh Fry (3-27) shared five wickets.
St Minver Seconds are all but safe after seeing off promotion-hopefuls St Stephen Seconds by two wickets.
Stuart Brill’s 4-16 kept the visitors to 152 all out before Neil Kent (33), Neil Meneer (42) and Andy Cameron (28no) sealed victory.
Launceston Thirds had a tough afternoon at Boconnoc Seconds in Division Seven.
Lucas Davey took 4-57 in the home side’s 288-5, before Andrew Baker’s patient 51 helped them reach 158-5 in response.
