ON HER recent trip to Kenya, Bude Bowling Club president Fran Goldthorp stayed at the Nairobi Members club which is home to the Kenyan Bowls Federation.

They have been developing a bowls coaching programme for under 25s and during her visit she was privileged to watch the very first Kenyan national singles junior final sponsored by Kogelo Tours and endorsed by Robert Paxton from Devon who is the current Indoor world champion.

Many of the young bowlers come from Kibera, a very poor area of Nairobi and live in difficult and challenging environments.

When visiting a community project in Kibera she was able to donate a dozen club shirts, and since her return has gathered over 90 shirts from club members to send to Kenya where they will be much appreciated.

A club spokesperson said: “If you have any bowling kit you would like to donate, please bring it to the club.”

Bude Bowling Club's new season got underway on Saturday, April 18, and recently held ‘come and play’ sessions on April 26 and May 1.
