SOUTH East Cornwall is full of brilliant people. From those working incredibly hard to support their families, to volunteers and community leaders who give up their time to assist others there’s so much for us to be proud of.

Our community spirit and resilience have always been something I have found incredibly special. It was a big part of what inspired me to get into politics. I have had many conversations with friends, family, and people across South East Cornwall who felt their voices were not being heard by Westminster. I could see the potential our communities have, while also seeing the challenges people face every day. I wanted to fight to change that.

When I stood for election as your MP, I promised to listen carefully to local people and make sure those voices were heard. That means coming to our communities and speaking to people from across South East Cornwall, understanding the issues that matter to them, and taking those concerns to Ministers, Government departments, and organisations that can help make a difference.

That’s why since becoming South East Cornwall’s MP, I have made it my mission to be out and about meeting people across the constituency. We are a large, rural constituency, and getting to one central location can be difficult, particularly for our older residents and those without access to a car or reliable public transport. I want to make it as easy as possible for residents to speak to me, so I change the location of my surgeries to meet people in different parts of our constituency.

The issues raised with me are incredibly varied, from individual issues on housing, welfare, and healthcare, to wider campaigns led by organisations. Recently, someone contacted me with real concerns regarding a young member of their family who was unable to access an appropriate SEND school. My team and I listened carefully, worked with the family to navigate the complex system, and took action to understand what went wrong. I am really glad this work has meant that a young person could access their first-choice school.

All of this adds up, and over the past two years, I have sent over 33,000 emails and handled over 22,000 cases on behalf of residents across South East Cornwall. I’m really proud of the work my team and I are doing to make sure local people have someone fighting their corner. Getting involved in politics is really important, and I encourage everyone to take part in our democracy.
