Bradworthy Young Farmers Club have had a busy six months with the new officers.

They started the year off to a strong start with a new members evening welcoming 80 people, where half of those were new faces.

A spokesperson said: “We then knew that the club was in for a good year.”

They continued: “With having a big club we have tried to keep a varied program, from fun nights to charity evenings and participating in competitions.

“In January we took part in a group entertainment competition which was held down at the Parkhouse Centre. It was called ‘Downing Street Antics’ and it was good to see so many new members on stage, from actors and musicians as well as being backstage, showing that YFC is all about working as a team, stepping outside your comfort zone as well as having fun.

“We ended up coming second in the Tarka group round which we were pleased with.

“In April we had a entertainment/comedy night with Johnny Cowling. This was our first charity event of the year raising funds towards RABI Charity. The evening consisted of Johnny Cowling entertaining us, a spot of bingo, beef rolls and icecream and we even got a shout out on the Cornish radio station ‘Pirate FM’.

“The event generated a profit of £2340.12. This was a very successful evening with a lot of laughs had.

“This year we had 19 members participate in club sheep show and sale. Each member participating had three ewes in lamb, two being the members and one being the clubs.

“We then lambed the ewes in the spring and sold the ewes with lambs at foot in Holsworthy Market on Wednesday 10th May, with Jack Cawsey winning overall champion for his double and Dan Heard winning reserve champion for his single lamb and ewe.

“A good amount of money was raised for members and club funds as well as it being a competition within the club.

“We’ve also taken part in a variety of visits and events such as farm walks, Bude RNLI visit, Christmas show and sale, Devon YFC Christmas Ball, Harpers Feeds tour, bonfire night and reindeer drive just to name a few. Up next is our charity big breakfast on Sunday, May 21, in Bradworthy Hall 9am to 12pm, open to all so please do come along and support the chosen charity ‘Above & Beyond’.”

They added: “Finally a big thank you to our sponsors this year, Bradworthy Inn, Jim Robinson Farm and Garden Machinery and Trakrite Services, the shirts look great!”
