A WEEK of fun in Holsworthy has gotten underway as one of the premier events in the town’s social calendar kicked off in style.
Steeped in tradition and with an extra-large smorgasbord of events right across the town and involving many of the great and good of Holsworthy community life, it promises a week that is sure to delight, thrill and entertain all in equal measure.
One of the centrepiece events across the week will take place on Wednesday, July 9, with the traditional announcement of the town’s new Pretty Maid for the year ahead in a ceremony to take place in the church at 12pm.
This will coincide with the official opening of the St Peter’s Fair Week funfair, this year provided by Ellis Attractions and taking place in the Manor Car Park.
Alongside the Pretty Maid’s Tea in the church later in the evening at 6pm, there will also be live musical entertainment in The Square from 7.30pm.
The first musical act for this year’s fair will be the quirky and distinctive Bicycle Repair Men, who promise to offer a range of quirky covers from ‘Metallica to Mumford and Steve Earle to Stereophonics’ before being followed by a four-piece funky soul band with a Caribbean twist in the form of Pressure Drop.
On Thursday, July 10, the week continues at maximum pace with another day of community fun, including the judging of Holsworthy in Bloom in addition to the Furry Dance, which will begin at 7.30pm at the Memorial Hall. It will be led by the Holsworthy Town Band, the Portreeve, members of HATS and local youth groups through the streets and pubs of the town, ending in the Square.
Immediately afterwards, there will be more music in the Square prior to the fair week going into the weekend with much more on the schedule.
