IT was smiles all round in Bude recently as the South West Truckers helped struggling locals make memories of a lifetime.

Around 50 trucks took to the roads of North Cornwall on Sunday, May 31, as South West Truckers organised a spectacular convoy to give a memorable day out to people who face greater challenges in their daily lives.

The annual event began at Bude Rugby Club, where participants and their families gathered before setting off in a colourful procession of decorated lorries. Crowds lined the streets to witness the impressive scene and to wave at the convoy as it travelled towards The Milky Way Adventure Park near Clovelly.

The initiative aims to provide a special experience for individuals living with disabilities, serious illnesses, and other difficulties. Many participants were given the opportunity to ride in the cabs of the trucks, enjoying a unique journey.

Jo Vanstone, who helps organise the event said: “Each year the event presents an spectacle, with around 50 vehicles travelling together and sounding their horns to the delight of spectators. Drivers donated their time and vehicles, while volunteers worked throughout the day to ensure the event ran smoothly.

“Upon arrival at The Milky Way Adventure Park, guests enjoyed a range of attractions, activities, and entertainment. Organisers said the event was designed to create lasting memories and provide a day free from everyday worries for those taking part.”

A spokesperson for South West Truckers thanked the drivers, volunteers, sponsors, and local communities for their continued support, describing the day as ‘a celebration of kindness, community spirit, and friendship.’

The event was widely praised by participants and families, many of whom described the convoy as the highlight of their year. As the trucks returned home after a successful day, organisers were already looking forward to bringing joy to even more people at future events.
