WHETHER you’re carving a spooky piece of art or trying your hand at autumnal cooking, when you’ve finished with your pumpkin, don’t bin it, recycle it.

West Devon Borough Council is encouraging residents to recycle their Hallowe’en pumpkins by either cooking them or putting them in the food waste bins after they’ve been carved.

It’s estimated that 18,000 tonnes of food waste is sent to landfill each year in the UK, the same weight as 1,500 double decker buses.

Recycling food waste in West Devon currently produces electricity which powers hundreds of houses each year.
