A YOUNG swimmer from Lifton has made waves in the pool after winning multiple county championship titles.
Callum Davies, aged 14, attends Launceston College, however, when he’s not studying for his GCSEs he’s delivering outstanding performances in the pool.
Recently, Callum showed his talents at the Devon County Championships in which he proved his ability, taking home the gold in the 400m individual medley, 200m freestyle, 800m freestyle and 1500m freestyle.

However, these performances take more than just natural talent, Callum, who represents the Okehampton Otters swimming club, is incredibly dedicated to his sport. He trains six days a week, including double sessions every Monday and Thursday, balancing early mornings, long hours in the pool, as well as the demands of schoolwork and recovery.
Now competing at national level, Callum regularly races against some of the strongest swimmers in the country and continues to perform successfully at county, regional and national competitions.
Last summer, he secured glory in the Welsh National Championships. Callum won four national titles in distance events 400m, 400 freestyle, 800 freestyle and 1,500 freestyle to take this quite amazing achievement. On top of this, he also won the 200m backstroke title.

Callum has been praised for his hard work by his school, with principal, Matthew Thompson saying: “Callum’s determination and dedication demonstrate a maturity beyond his years. Balancing school life with such a demanding training schedule takes enormous commitment and focus.
“He is a fantastic role model not only for other students, but for everyone at Launceston College - we are incredibly proud of his achievements. We are excited to continue supporting him as he progresses on his swimming journey.”
Having already achieved so many impressive feats, there’s no doubt that Callum will continue to push for greater success in the future.
