SOME of Launceston’s students have been getting a hands-on insight into career opportunities within the energy, recycling and sustainability sector.
On March 17, students from the town’s Step Into Learning programme took a confident step towards their future careers during an interactive careers day hosted by SUEZ at the Cornwall Energy Recovery Centre (CERC).
Held in CERC’s education centre, the event was designed to equip young people with practical employability skills while introducing them to a wide range of career opportunities within the energy, recycling and sustainability sector.
The day combined careers presentations with hands‑on workshops and one‑to‑one mock interviews led by industry professionals. Students took part in a variety of activities including CV writing sessions, green skills job cards, and personality quizzes all aimed at building confidence and getting them ready for the workplace.
A highlight of the day was a series of structured 15‑minute mock interviews, giving students valuable insight into recruitment processes and employer expectations.
Participants also had the opportunity to learn more about recycling and the waste industry, with many leaving inspired by the technology involved and the variety of green career pathways available.
Naomi West, employability and next steps lead, said: “Our Step into Learning learners came away from their Careers and Mock Interview Day with SUEZ feeling inspired, empowered, and seen. The chance to explore real career pathways and practice interviews with such supportive professionals meant more than we can say. We are really thankful, and we are already excited about working with them again in the future”
“Engaging with young people and supporting local education programmes is a key part of our commitment to the community.” Said Olivia Crisp, partnership and community engagement manager at SUEZ. “It was great to see the enthusiasm and confidence students gained throughout the day.”
