AS debates rage on across the world as to whether we should be championing or opposing the rise of Artificial Intelligence, we want to know where you stand on the issue.

Over the last few years, AI has gone from a term almost entirely associated with science-fiction, to something which is common place in the lexicon of much of the population. However, it doesn’t look as though these rapid developments are going to stop any time soon.

Though, despite international discussions, earlier this year those discussions suddenly had an impact on a project much closer to home after it was revealed that British ‘renewable-energy’ organisation Xlinks planned to construct an AI data centre on land between Great Torrington, Huntshaw and Weare Giffard - less than 30 miles from Bude.

The £13-billion plans would see the construction of what the organisation is calling the ‘Devon data campus’, a space which would house GPUs, TPUs, and high-performance processors, with immense data storage and processing capabilities which are used to process the demands of AI workloads from across the world.

If completed, the site would be one of the largest data centres across Europe.

As a result, discussions have been ignited locally about the potential impact of such a facility and the wider impact of Artificial Intelligence. The plans have even prompted three local children to release a song, calling for action against the ‘monstrous development’.
