A HISTORIC South West hotel dating back some 300 years is set to be sold.

For hundreds of years, the building which is now home The Arundell hotel haas been present in the village, however, some suggest that it may date back even further than the 1600’s, functioning as an inn or ale house. Though there are no records of such an premises the hotel was originally called The White Horse, leading some to theorise about potential links with the Saxons.

Now, hundreds of years after its first construction, the building has been expanded and modernised, boasting 21-en suite bedrooms, a two-bedroom self-catering fishing cottage, a cosy guest lounge, a gastropub, a café, a four-bedroom flat, four distinct function and event spaces, and 16 Tesla Superchargers,

However, it has been revealed that the site is now up for sale, with specialist business property adviser Christie & Co having been instructed to market The Arundell for a sum of £1.95-million.

A spokesperson for the organisation said: “The Arundell combines nearly a century of heritage with significant recent investment.

“The current owners have invested heavily in bringing The Arundell up to a standard matching its reputation, and the hotel now offers a new owner a significant opportunity to build on the business’s existing success.”

Stephen Champion, director for hotels at Christie & Co, commented: “To present The Arundell to the market alongside comparable hotel opportunities, the fishing rights and associated business have been separated from the sale. Fishing will continue to be an integral part of the guest offering, mirroring the way in which the shooting is currently operated.

“The new owner of The Arundell will therefore continue to benefit from the associated room, food and beverage income generated by these sporting facilities, but without the complications, costs and specialist expertise required to operate a high-level fishing business, including a team of around eight ghillies.”
