A FAST food giant has confirmed that it is set to open a store in Bude.

Last year, it was revealed that a British fast food giant that makes more than £2-billion in sales in year has plans to open a site in the North Cornwall town.

It came after the Motor Fuel Group (MFG) applied to Cornwall Council for planning permission to build a single-storey retail extension, jetwash bay, plant room and associated works at the Morrisons petrol filling station at Stucley Road (PA25/02231).

Plans would see the existing car wash removed and replaced by an extension to make way for pastry retailer, Greggs, a North East-based bakery chain, which has more than 2,600 shops across the UK.

A supporting statement explained: “MFG is the UK’s largest independent forecourt operator with over 900 sites offering a dual-fuel strategy, convenient retail and ‘food to go’. MFG are looking to roll-out an extensive supply of EV charging facilities at existing Morrisons sites across the UK to diversify their existing offer, with the aspiration to make it as easy to charge your vehicle as re-fuelling with petrol or diesel. The aspiration of MFG is to provide access to convenient and affordable charging, regardless of where the driver lives.

“The proposals do not raise any concerns regarding adverse impact on amenity/ conflict in terms of surrounding land uses. The proposed area will be well-lit and does not raise any concerns from anti-social behaviour/natural surveillance perspective.”

Now, following the approval of plans, the retailer has announced that the site is set to open later this year.

A Greggs spokesperson said: “Greggs is due to open a new shop in Bude later on in the year. We will be able to share further details with you closer to the opening.”
