980 Fat Hoggs, 106 Draft Ewes and Rams

Another good entry and again a flying trade with an overall average per head being £191.60 with a large proportion of todays entry being over 52kgs.

The export weights sold to a top of 434ppk for 2 pens of 36.2kgs to £157 from Terry O’reilly of Rectory Farm, Halwill and Geoffery George of Looseham, Monkleigh saw his 47kgs achieve 426ppk to £200.

Two vendors at 423ppk, Mr AM Johns of Bremridge, Hatherleigh saw his 44kgs to £186 and RW Squire of Honeychurch saw his 46.2kgs at £195.50.

The heavies saw a top of £202 for 2 pens from Victor and Celia Goaman of Stitworthy, Higher Clovelly who also made £201 for another 2 pens. There was then another 24 pens at £200.

106 Draft Ewes

Again a very fast trade and more could have been sold.

Top on the day was £199 for a pen of Suffolk x from Mike Hill of Bideford who also realised £182 for Texel x. Phil and Walter Johns of Haydon, North Tamerton saw their Charollais x ewes to £178 and Mules to £167.

Store Hoggs

Smaller entry but a strong trade, top being £163 from Chris Allin of Launcells.

Couples 46E and 73L

Smaller entry and a faster trade with doubles up to £395 from 3 lots of Dorset x mule and Texel x. Singles at £305 with others to £300 and £290 all sold by J Shipton of Sladdacott, Week St Mary.

505 Calves

A massive spring entry of 505 rearing calves saw lots of large consignments of 40’s and 50’s of spring born calves penned up and in all honesty, trade slipped away from what it has been in recent weeks.

Milk Calves

Strong Simmental bulls topped the section at £760 for the best of a good run up from Ian Tower and Jacqueline Davis of Newquay who sold more at £690 and £665.

Best of the Blue bulls reached £745 for TJ Daniel, Sutcombe, £700 (21days) from Michael Braunton, Helland, £700 x2 for CL & MA Stevens, Woolsery and £692 for Andrew and Mark Kempthrone.

116 Blue bulls average £519 down £100 on the week due to the amount of spring born calves coming. Smart Charolais bulls hit £742 for D Philp of Looe, who had more away at £728, £720, £705 and £702.

Best of the Angus reached £720 for a beauty in from CL & MA Stevens, more at £655, £615, £612 and £610 x3 for a standout run up from Helston from Martin Wallis- a credit to him.

Hereford bulls drew £660 for TJ Daniel, more £640 for CL & MA Stevens, £610 Andrew Kempthorne and £600 for B & N Davey.

Heifers sold away to £660 for a sweet pair of Blue heifers from TJ Daniel, others to £652 for AF Agri, £650 J Veldhouse and £630 for both CL & MA Stevens and Bradley Farm Partnership.

Best Angus heifers raced up to £615 for Martin Wallis, more to £600 for TJ Daniel, £560 Rob Veale, Halwill. Hereford heifers sold up to £550 for Dave Furse Ashwater.

Dairy Sired Bulls

23 Friesian bulls sell to a high of £365 for a strong type in from J Veldhouse, others to £310 for Bradley Farm Partnership and all in they averaged £145.

153 Store Cattle

Trade went up a gear this week although with the first spell of dry weather numbers were tight.

Plenty of cattle at 2000+, topping at £2410 for a smart 23mth Charolais from Messrs Lovistone Share Farming of Okehampton who sold 2 others to £2350 & £2190.

A strong British Blue trade topped at £2360 for 3 strong 22mths steers from Messrs A & L Furse of Beaworthy, other 18mth British Blues from Mr SW Graham of Bude at £2050 (2).

Natives topped at £2050 for 3 21mth steers from Messrs A & L Furse and a 17mth Hereford steer to £1880 from Mr KI Ridgeman of North Tamerton.

A nice run of outlying single suckled South Devon steers from Mr J Collings of Launceston topped at £2025 (2). Younger summer grazing steers saw a much faster trade easily up £100 on previous weeeks with plenty of 14-17mth steers to £1700-£1900.

Heifers topped at £2060 for a 22mth Aberdeen Angus from Mr J Collings of Launceston, other Aberdeen Angus from SJ Griffin of Ashwater to £1850 (2).

4 smart 18mth British Blues from SW Graham of Bude sold well at £1980. Younger grazing heifers saw a flyer, plenty of lightweight 15-17mth Continental & Natives to £1500-£1700.

Younger Cattle

A shorter entry this week saw a flying trade.

A run of single suckled Aberdeen Angus 10mth old from Mr AS May of Week St Mary saw steers to £1880 and heifers to £1480, other single suckled 10mth Limousin from Mr D Hopper of Saltash saw steers to £1650 (4) and heifers to £1360.

Young Dairy x steers saw British Blues from Mr EA Maile of Okehampton race away to £1800 and Hereford steers 12mths from Messrs RG & JA Wooldridge of Beaworthy at £1590. Other 12mth Hereford steers from Messrs N Jukes of Bude to £1560.

Limousins steers again from Messrs RG & JA Wooldridge of Beaworthy to £1380 and 3 long Limousin heifers from the same farm at £1380 and British Blue heifers from Messrs CR & CF Timms of Okehampton to £1370 (2) & £1300 (2).

Grazing Cows

A young Aberdeen Angus cow from Messrs BE & G Palmer of Tavistock topped at £1850.

OTM Weighing Cows

Top was 229ppk for a 804kilo now FA Hereford cow from Mr AC McClaren of Bideford which realised £1841.
