291 Fat Hoggs, 169 Draft Ewes and Rams

Smaller entry due to the heavy rain fall over the past few days met a stronger trade than was anticipated with an overall average of 320.6 ppk.

The well fleshed lambs very much sought after, top being 340ppk from 2 vendors. Allan Tucker of Stibb Cross 2 pens 39kgs at £132.50 and Messers Hunkin & Daughter of Petrockstowe 35kg at £119.

There was five other vendors realising 329-330ppk , numerous pens realising £150 and over to a top of £154 from Lodge & Tucker of Launceston.

Draft Ewes

Larger entry and a very fast trade from start to finish and a lot more could have been sold.

Several pens over £145 to a top of £164 for a pen of Suffolk X from Jim & Richard Hookway of St Giles, Texel X to £163 from Gareth Daniel of St Giles and Charollais X to £155 from J&M Huxtable of Garnacott. Mules to £151.

146 Store Hoggs

A flying trade for all on offer top on the day was £135 from Kevin Heard of Bradworthy followed by £134 from Jeremy Spry of Tamerton Town.

331 Calves

331 calves average £446/head so another fast calf trade right throughout the sale.

Weaned Calves

30 weaned calves sold to a top of £800 (6m) for a single Blue steer in from James Warren up from Penzance, Angus steers to £745 (6m) in from Handsford Farm Partnership, North Tawton and Hereford steers to £640 for D & T Wildern, Newton St Petrock.

Angus heifers sold well and made £720 (6m x8) from Handsford Farm Partnership again.

Milk Calves

A good quality run met by very strong demand and reached £880 for an eye catching Charolais bull presented by FW Dymond & Son, Shebbear other well put together Charolais bulls reached a strong £800 x2 and £735 x2 sold by NJ & KC Bowden, Highampton all Charolais bulls average just shy of £600.

Best of the Blue bulls soared away to £840 and £800 for MB Davey, Hartland £760 for MR & EG Hannah & Co, Liskeard, £695 for RWH Dilling, £685 for Bradley Farm Partnership who had more away to £670 x2, £665 and £675 for A & D Heyward, Coryton.

Limousins made £660 for FW Dymond, £612 JR Frayne, £600 WJ & CC Bond, Buckland Brewer and £598 for V & M Brown, Buckland Brewer.

Strong Hereford bulls achieved £750 for both R Rennie, Highampton and £750 for MR & EG Hannah & Co, Liskeard more to £650 for FW Dymond, £615 for WA Raffe & Son.

Angus bulls another very fast trade and sold up to £570 R Rennie, £568 LE & T Rockett, Bridestowe, £540 Bradley Farm Partnership, £535 for Baulch Partnership, £532 LJ Goaman, £530 DKN & DM Furse, Ashwater and £518 for D Mather, Advent.

Heifers reached an impressive £845 for a smart Charolais from FW Dymond who had another away well at £800. Other good Charolais heifers to £630 for Graham Duke, Werrington and £610 for NJ & KC Bowden.

Strong well reared Blue heifers away to £710 MB Davey, Hartland who sold more well to £690 & £605 more to £590 MJ & PH Hopper and £580 LJ Goaman. Limousin heifers to £555 FW Dymond, £515 for RG LA SR & CM Wearing, Tavistock and £480 for WJ & CC Bond.

Hereford heifers reached £545 x2, £525 x2 and £468 all from FW Dymond and Angus heifers topped out at £492 LE & T Rockett and £465 for RB & NJ Veale who sold more well to £462 and £430.

Dairy Sired Bulls

19 Friesian bulls average a grand £246/head to a top of £470 for a strong pair of ‘proper’ Friesians in from MW Brown of Buckland Brewer.

225 Store Cattle

A good entry of store cattle this week, a cracking run of well fed/presented Aberdeen Angus from Messrs N&B Trewin of Bideford saw 2 16mth steers top the day at £2190 others from the same farm to £2000(4) and £1980(5).

Other Aberdeen Angus from Mr BJ Yelland of Holsworthy to £1900 and £1900 was also reached for 3 from Messrs FC & SJ Wade of Bradworthy. Other natives saw Herefords to £1900 again from N&B Trewin whose other16mth Herefords hit £1870.

Those continentals with condition sold well this week, top being £2130 for 3 shapley 17mth British Blues from Messrs H&M Thorne of Umberleigh, other British Blues form Messrs R Bowden & Son of Bridgerule to £2040. Limousins to £1980 for a 17mth steer from Mr BJ Yelland of Holsworthy.

Best meat heifers topped at £2180 for a 24mth Limousin from Messrs HR Daniel & Son of Torrington and £2180 for a 24mth Fleckvieh heifer from Messrs S&K Pomeroy of Putford.

Messrs HR Daniel & Son had other continentals to £2060 for a 21mth Limousin and also had Blue heifers hit £2030 & £1880.

A well fleshed Charolais heifer from Messrs BD & DG Andrew of Shebbear hit £1800, Holstein heifers to £1820 from Messrs RJ & JR Warren of Penzance.

Younger Cattle

Several good consignments this week with a run of 35 quality dairy x 10-12mth cattle from Mr J Angell of Holsworthy saw British Blue steers to £1760(5) others £1640, Aberdeen Angus steers to £1810 others £1520, Hereford steers £1660(5) others £1450 and British Blue heifers to £1460(6).

Younger 8-9mth British Blue steers from Mr HN Shere of Bradworthy £1220(5), Hereford steers £1200(5) and 8mth British Blue heifers £1160(4).

A quality run of single suckled Charolais from Messrs SJ Crocker & Son of Lewdown saw 9 steers £1450 others £1440 & £1360, heifers to £1300(5) & £1200(6).

Finished Cattle

281ppk was the top for a Holstein heifer from Messrs JLC Farms of Yeolmbridge to £1820.

OTM Weighing Cows

Three Pure Devon cows from Messrs T&A Mawtus of Clawton topped at 274ppk for a 712kg cow £1950 others to 246ppk & 240ppk.
