THE management of a much loved community theatre in Holsworthy has paid tribute to a similar Cornish enterprise which has gone into liquidation.

Holsworthy Amateur Theatrical Society (HATS) was reacting to the news that the Sterts Theatre, based near Liskeard had closed during its 40th anniversary year.

The popular group, which operates HATS Theatre and provides a schedule of well received community theatre performances throughout the year, shared a tribute to the legacy of the Sterts Theatre and the people who played a role in it over its four decades of existence.

HATS hailed the role that Sterts had played in bringing together people through the magic of live performance and said it was a place where talents had been nurtured and friendships created.

A spokesperson for HATS said on behalf of its committee: “It is with great sadness that we hear the news of Sterts Theatre’s closure. As a fellow local community theatre, we the committee understand the passion, dedication, hard work and sheer love of the arts that go into keeping a community theatre alive, and our hearts go out to everyone who has been part of the Sterts family.

“Sterts Theatre has been so much more than a venue. It has been a place where creativity has flourished, talents have been nurtured, friendships have been formed and countless memories have been made. It has brought people together through the magic of live performance and provided a stage for so many wonderful moments that will never be forgotten.

“We know that behind every curtain raised, every performance given and every event hosted are countless hours of commitment from volunteers, committee members, performers, supporters and the wider community. The emotional investment in a place like Sterts is immeasurable, and we can only imagine the heartbreak that this announcement brings to all those who have worked so tirelessly to keep it going.

“From one local theatre family to another, we want you to know that your contribution to the arts and to your community has mattered enormously. Although the curtain may be coming down, the memories, friendships, inspiration and joy you have created will live on in the hearts of everyone who has been touched by Sterts.

“We also extend our deepest sympathies to all your loyal supporters, audiences, volunteers and performers, who will undoubtedly be feeling this loss just as deeply. Community theatre is built on people coming together with a shared love of something special, and it is heartbreaking when a place that means so much faces its final chapter.

“Please accept our heartfelt condolences, solidarity and warmest thoughts during this incredibly difficult time. From our committee to yours, we send you our love, respect and gratitude for everything you have given to the local arts community.

“The stage may fall silent, but the spirit of Sterts will never truly be silenced.”
