STUDENTS at a sixth form near Holsworthy have been experiencing the other side of the world - quite literally.

Four Shebbear College Sixth Formers are nearing the end of an unforgettable exchange experience in Australia, having spent the summer immersed in life at Canberra Grammar School as part of the school's long-standing international exchange programme.

Natasha, Sophia, Freddie and Jay arrived in Canberra at the start of the UK summer holidays, where they received a warm welcome from their exchange partners and host families before embarking on a memorable introduction to Australian life.

The students spent their first few days experiencing some of the country's highlights, from dune buggy adventures and a desert barbecue to attending the Australia v Italy rugby match, before starting school at Canberra Grammar School when the Australian term startedlater in July.

All four students quickly made a positive impression on teachers, students, host families and boarding staff alike. Whether taking part in school life, exploring Canberra or simply adapting to life on the other side of the world, they have thrown themselves wholeheartedly into the experience.

Among the many highlights so far, Freddie has enjoyed significant success on the rugby field since arriving in Australia. Having quickly established himself within Canberra Grammar School's highly competitive rugby programme, he was presented with his First XV jersey and earned a starting position at outside centre for the school's annual Pink Round fixture, which raises awareness and support for those affected by breast cancer.

Former Shebbear exchange student Oskar praised Freddie's achievement, saying: "Freddie has been absolutely class since joining Canberra Grammar School. To earn a starting place in the First XV straight away says a lot about both his talent on the pitch and his character. Shebbear College should be really proud of him."

Freddie's success highlights the strong sporting links that continue to flourish between Shebbear College and Canberra Grammar School, with rugby providing a valuable connection between students from both schools.

The exchange programme is one of the many opportunities available to students in Shebbear College Sixth Form, offering young people the chance to experience life in another country, develop independence, broaden their horizons and form friendships that span continents.

Opportunities like this encourage young people to step outside their comfort zones, develop confidence and create friendships and memories that last a lifetime. We are incredibly proud of the way Natasha, Sophia, Freddie and Jay are representing Shebbear College."

Later this term, the four students will return to Shebbear accompanied by their exchange partners from Canberra Grammar School, giving them the opportunity to share life in Devon and continue the friendships they have built on the other side of the world.

As their Australian adventure draws to a close, they leave with unforgettable memories and experiences that will stay with them for years to come.
