THE headteacher of Holsworthy Primary School has praised the response from students and parents towards a homeless person living near the school.
It came after an email was sent from the school to parents relating to a homeless person, believed to be a local person who has fallen on hard times, living in a tent at Stanhope Park near the primary school.
The email said that there had been discussion and speculation in the community relating to the tent.
The school said that Devon and Cornwall Police had said they had no safeguarding concerns over the position of the tent occupied by the man and had conducted full background checks in response to the queries relating to him.
There was also concern stated at reports that a youth, which Holsworthy Primary School believes not to be a student at their school had thrown a rock at the tent of the homeless man.
Since the email was sent out urging kindness and respect towards the gentleman, the headteacher of Holsworthy Primary School said she had been blown away by the response from the school community.
She said that there had been multiple kind messages sent and offers of donations towards the gentleman.
It is understood that the gentleman in the tent is set to be moved on in the coming weeks.
Speaking to The Post, Amy Symons, the headteacher of Holsworthy Primary School said: “We don't believe any of our children are involved in the incidents involving the tent.
“Furthermore, we have been blown away by the support the parents and children have shown the gentleman following this correspondence, with kind messages and donations.
“At times like this, when given all the information, our community is a very special place to live.”
