BUDE-Stratton Town Council has announced the next step in securing renovations for the town’s skatepark.

The council has announced the official signing of the lease for the town’s skatepark today (May 9).

The handover of the lease marks the successful devolution from Cornwall Council to the local jurisdiction.

A spokesperson for the council said: “This significant development represents a pivotal moment for the community as it advances in shaping the future of this beloved recreational space.

“The completion of this transition underscores the council’s commitment to enhancing community amenities and fostering a vibrant and inclusive environment for all residents.”

Former mayor and lead councillor for youth provision, Cllr Mike Dawe, added: “We’re thrilled to reach this milestone in the journey towards the management of our skatepark.

“The signing of the lease signifies a new chapter in the evolution of this important community asset and we’re grateful for the support and collaboration of Cornwall Council throughout this process.”

However, despite many supporting the move to refurbish and extend the skatepark, some residents have also raised concerns about how this will affect the character of a green space such as the Downs.
