THERE was cause for celebration as Holsworthy Army Cadet Force held an awards and presentation evening for achievements made in 2015 — with a special award for LCPL Summer for her courageous first aid support during a Royal visit to the town’s livestock market.

The detachment gathered at the White Hart where 45 cadets, former cadet adult instructors and special guests enjoyed a traditional Christmas dinner.

The presentation ceremony then awarded members in attendance with certificates and trophies.

A special trophy was awarded by detachment Commander 2Lt Jim Harvey in recognition of LCPL Summer's ‘Prompt and Proper First Aid at a Public Events’. Summer supported a casualty during the Royal visit to Holsworthy Livestock Market on October 19 last year when Princess Anne officially opened the agribusiness centre.

During the visit, a member of the public was in need of first aid and Summer was on hand to deliver the prompt and necessary support in a proper fashion — the award is in recognition of her actions.

At the awards ceremony Summer also collected her 2 Star Training Badge.

Also awarded was the ‘Best Recruit’, which went to Matilda Daniel, and Caitlin Wood and Harry Fackrell collected the ‘Best Cadet Trophies’.

Hope Wood was presented with the ‘Best Turn Out’ award for her maintaining of a higher standard of uniform that is expected of all recruits. She was also promoted to LCPL along with fellow cadets Sam Williams and Zak Loader.

The evening’s guest, Major David Price, Officer Commanding for North Devon ACF, made the promotion presentations. He also issued six ‘Basic Training Badges’ and three ‘Junior First Aid Certificates’.

After all the presentations were complete the evening ended with a film showing all the activities undertaken by the Detachment in 2015.

Holsworthy Army Cadet Force is now recruiting and will be holding an open evening at the Community College on Monday, February 29 from 7pm to 9pm.
