A SERVICE of celebration for the tower of St Peter ad Vincula Church in Ashwater was held recently.

The service for the tower, bells and works to St Peter ad Vincula filled the church for the service led by Rev Jane Lucas. The preacher was the venerable Dr Mark Butchers, archdeacon of Barnstaple.

The Ashwater Steel Pans, led by Christine March, played before and after the service, and Christine also played the organ for the hymns and organised the choir.

The readings were read by readers, Jim Williams and Trevor May, and the prayers were led by bell ringer, Liz Martin.

The lunch followed in the Ashwater parish hall with soups, baked potatoes, cheeses and delicious sweets by the ladies. Rev Jane Lucas said: “Thank you to all.”

A Friends of St Peter’s was launched and forms can be found in the church, should anyone want to contribute to the upkeep of the fabric of St Peter’s.
