TWO fire crews rushed to a property in Cornwall – only to discover that a pest control smoke bomb had been left off.

The firefighters were responding after a 999 call had been made by a worried neighbour who had seen smoke in the house.

The incident in St Austell has prompted Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service to remind people that if they are planning fumigation activities they should let them know.

A fire service spokesperson said: “Two appliances from St Austell Fire Station and a whole-time officer attended a report of a house fire following smoke being seen by caller in their neighbour’s property.

“On arrival, crews identified that the cause of the smoke was a pest control smoke bomb.

“If you are planning fumigation activities at residential or business premises, please notify fire control beforehand on 0203 162 2240 so they can prevent false alarms from neighbours and passers-by.”
