FIRE Crews responsible for helping to save lives in the Bude area have highlighted the importance of fire doors after sharing the impact of a fire in Week St Mary.
Crews from Bude and Launceston Community Fire Stations were called to reports of a fire just after 2.24pm on October 2 in a roof at a property.
The response to the blaze incorporated two pumps from Bude, assisted with an extra pump and crew from Launceston’s fire team.
It was stated that because the property had fire doors, it prevented the incident spreading to the kitchen of the property.
A spokesperson for Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service’s Bude community fire station said: “After a reasonably quiet few weeks for Bude Fire Station, the pagers went at 14.24pm to a reported house fire in the roof near Week St Mary. Two pumps were mobilised from Bude and another one from Launceston.
“Once on scene a BA crew of two were sent to the utility area to knock back the fire and another team of 2 were sent through the house to stop it spreading any further.
“Once the fire was under control in the house, a BA crew of 2 from Launceston were tasked with removing roof tiles and stop the fire spreading through the roof.Used in the incident were a total of 10 BA wearers, 4 hose reel jets, a main jet, two triple X ladders and two roof hooks.
“A large factor for the fire not spreading to the kitchen, was a fire door attached between the rooms and importantly it was kept closed. Fire doors save lives and protect properties by containing the fire and smoke. The pictures show just how important they are and how well it worked on this incident.”
