A welcome return to part of the local Cornish heritage, occurred with the much-loved St Genny’s District Horticultural Show, on Friday, July 29, at the Legion Hall in Crackington Haven.

Visitors were treated to a fabulous display with more than 200 entrants.

Rows of tasty vegetables, from courgettes to carrots tempted the audience, who were treated to afternoon tea with the sounds of St Genny’s Silver Band playing.

The smell of freshly-baked cakes and sweet-tasting flapjacks competed with golden jars of local honey and the glamorous gladioli in the flower section. The amazing handicrafts, from both adults and children as young as five years old, adorned the hall.

Richard Heard, one of the hard-working volunteers who organised the show, said: “It’s a delight to be back here after a two-year break, celebrating the creative spirit of our residents. We are determined to carry on this traditional event and look forward to growing and developing in the years to come.

“I invite even more people to join us and enter their work next year.”

The show was kindly opened by Mary Northcott, a long-term local resident.

Prizes were awarded in all the classes, with 26 cups presented to some of the lucky winners.

This was the first competition that Lera from the Ukraine, who is aged eight years, had entered; she won first with her beautiful aquarium model.
