‘Nightwalk’ helps North Devon Hospice

By Zoë Uglow in Local People

LADIES from the Holsworthy area took part in the North Devon Hospice ‘Nightwalk’ at Tamar Lakes on Saturday, May 20.

The event included light shows, fire performers and even a prosecco bar.

Hundreds took part in the local leg of the event, with either a three or six mile circular walk around the lakes.

Claire Sherwood, events and community fundraiser for North Devon Hospice, said ‘it was a magical evening’, she added: “The atmosphere was amazing. The ladies of Holsworthy and the surrounding area did themselves proud by lighting up the routes with their glowing outfits in aid of the Long House in Holsworthy. We were treated to the most spectacular sunset and as the darkness descended, the trail came alive with our lighting installations.”

‘Energia Samba’, a samba band, spurred the ladies on with their energy and colour, and to top it all off the Holsworthy Lions put on a fantastic BBQ, which was enjoyed by all.

The Nightwalk demonstrated great community spirit from not only the ladies who took part, but the performers, suppliers and all the volunteers who made the event happen.

Without the support of the local community, the Long House wouldn’t be able to provide vital care and support to local families.

Organisers extended their thanks to this year’s sponsors and other companies, local groups and individuals who gave their support and made the event happen.

Claire added: “Every pound raised really makes a difference. So we encourage all Nightwalkers to collect as much sponsorship as they can, because there are countless families now and in the future who will need our care and support during the toughest of times.”

Sponsorship money and donations can still be made by sending them, preferably by cheque, to: Nightwalk, c/o North Devon Hospice, Deer Park, Newport, Barnstaple, EX32 0HU.
